Google Speed Update is now being released to all users
In a release in Google’s official blog post on July 9, 2018 it was said the speed update has begun rolling out, this is the major algorithm change happened after 2015 April, named “ Mobile-Friendly” and further on “Mobile-friendly 2” on May 12, 2016, the current updation is deemed to be the strong ranking factor for mobile searchers now.
According to Google this will “only affect a small percentage of queries.” It is common doubt what all are the parameters used to analyse the speed and loading time of a website, normally webmasters analyse the metrics from the Lighthouse, Chrome User Experience report tool and PageInsights tool, but Google didn’t give conformation that any specific metrics applied to measure page speed.
During 2010 Google announced that website load time was a factor when looking at ranking websites, but then it was mainly for the performance of websites in desktop users, but later identified the tremendous increase in mobile internet searches (according to the latest report by Statista internet user penetration in mobile phone is over 61.2%, period 2014-2019 ) Google started to concentrate more on identifying site’s performance in mobile and load time, forthwith Google declared that the release of Google Speed Update for mobile search ranking, it impacts web sites having high load time and influences in mobile search ranking of the slowest sites, now it rolls out for all users.
Regardless of the technology applied in the development of a website, the search query factor will also be playing a major role in the ranking factor, Latent semantic indexing (LSI), Accelerated Mobile Pages (AMP), loading time of the website and User Experience are also the contributing factor in Google search ranking. As it’s declared that Speed Update is directly impacts the loading time, the developers are required to be very cautious on the following parameters
- File sizes
- HTML/ CSS version conflicts ( for existing sites)
- Lack of AMPs
- Image sizes (can be resolved using Angular JS coding etc)
- Excessive redirects (deep links, outbound links)
- Server response time
- Embedded video load time
To ensure conformity factor with Google’s new speed algorithm updation the developers are required to ensure websites are responsive with mobile devices, integrate viewport tag if required, make at least a single page in Accelerated Mobile Page (AMP) format, all contact sheet data to be in Microdata coding format, use necessary Resource Description Frame-work attributes or JSON coding in information display, this is how we can make a website perfect for Google’s Speed Update for mobile search ranking and thereby enhancing mobile Search Engine Result Page (SERP) ranking.
